I'm sitting here in Hawaii helping one of the 1st MAW units with deploying a squadron to OIF. This is great because it gives me the opportunity as a low ranking Marine to really make a name for myself. I've been working hard and I really hope it all pays off in the end. K, let me tell you how bad it really sucks here. I'm staying in barracks that still have holes in them from the attack on Pearl Harbor. Now, this place would be a cool place to visit, but to live, it sucks. Also, I'm TAD (Temporary Assigned Duty) and they have me doing all the same things I would be doing if I was attached to this unit, for example, field day (cleaning the barracks once a week), working parties, a lot of crap that is really putting some hurtles in front of me doing my job. Since I've been out here I've been counseled by an outstanding MSgt for speaking not so tactfully to an officer... but the funny thing is he said "Mullins, the reason I didn't say anything right in front of the officer is because I totally agreed with you, but next time just say it a little more tactfully." In my line of work I don't have much time to be so "nice". Some times I need to "shock and ahh" some people just to get my point across. But overall these people here appreciate my work and I think there might be a possibility that I might receive a NAM (Navy Achievement Metal) outta this. I'm workin hard over here and I'll fill ya'll in on more as it happens.
